Jamie Archer has revealed he is planning to ignore mentor Simon Cowell’s advice this week and will be doing it his own way. Simon has changed Jamie’s songs at the last minute twice now, with some fans saying Cowell is favouring his other acts Danyl and Lloyd.
Jamie told The Sun: “I’ve had a few problems with my confidence – I think everyone has seen that.
“I really thought I was a goner on Sunday when I was in the last three.
“I looked over at Lucie and the twins and thought, ‘There’s no way I’m not in the final two.’
“But when Dermot told me I was through I just punched the air and thought, ‘That’s it – I mean business.’ I’m doing things my way from now on.”
Jamie has reportedly been arguing with Simon for the past few weeks over song choices and productions, with Archer last week threatening to quit the show.

It’s good to see Jamie realise what many X-Factor followers have known since the beginning: Simon is not qualified to give advice to singers. (The way he treated Lucie makes me feel he does not really know what a singer is, what it is to be a singer.) With great bluster and extensive politicking Simon can “sell” an X-Factor act to the voters, and apply really hammy ideas, like cheesy Unchained Melody. Is that the only ballad like that that he knows?
I would almost like Jamie to be eliminated, to ensure he is far away from Cowell’s grasp when it comes to recording contracts. Chris Daughtry, another rocker ready to record like Jamie was ejected from American Idol far too early. He is now enjoying a great career on the top level of US entertainment, and totally free from the Gang of Cowell. Jamie will have no difficulty in emulating Daughtry, as Chris’s act is now called.
Simon’s petulant behaviour when Jon Bon Jovi offered Jamie an under-card spot on his UK and Europe tour, starting immediately, tells me that JBJ will try to get something set up as soon as Cowell is off the radar. Over the years JBJ has assisted a load of starting talents, so I’m not hallucinating! But Jon Bon Jovi being ready to sign Jamie up on the spot must have alerted many other people will now be interested in Jamie.
Jamie may not be your favourite, but pay attention to what he is going through. Your favourite could fall somehow into Cowell’s clutches and knowing what happened to Chris Daughtry and what will certainly happen to Jamie pretty soon will show you what could happen should Cowell start playing politics with your favourites future.
By the way, Jamie was not being selfish when Jon Bon Jovi offered him a contract Jamie did not solicit JBJ’s approach, and Simon would have obtained both kudos and money from the way the contracts were going to be written. Of course Jamie was upset when Simon barred the idea out of hand! Wouldn’t you be?
