Dannii Minogue has apologised for her comment about Danyl Johnson’s sexuality following his performance of “And I’m Telling You” on last night’s live show. Dannii insinuated that, because of newspaper reports suggesting Danyl is bisexual, he shouldn’t have changed the song to a woman from a man.
Minogue told the contest live on air, “If you’re to believe everything you read in the papers, then you didn’t need to change the gender references in the song.”
The comments shocked both the live audience and those watching, Simon remarked, “You can forget playing any of those games with him. I’m not having that. This guy sang his heart out. Give him some credit.”
On her official blog, a statement read, “Dannii made a joke about the lyrics of Danyl’s song, referencing a recent newspaper interview he has given about his private life.
“She spoke to Danyl straight after the show, explained what she was talking about and he wasn’t offended in the slightest.
“Dannii is mortified if her comments have been misinterpreted as she has always been hugely supportive of the gay and bi-sexual community for her entire career.
The statement also revealed that Minogue had spoken to Danyl after the show and that Johnson did not have a problem with her comment.”
The live results show starts tonight from 8PM on ITV1.

danni had no right saying this about danyl, what right have she got to embarrass danyl on live tv!! she is there to judge him on his singing not his passed history!!
she was even grining when she said it to him!!

They should stop making excuses for Dannii. Even tho the incident is over, it’s left quite a foul taste in the mouths of many viewers who already didn’t like her. Those feeling are now magnified.
Stop trying to be ‘funny’ Dannii…you are not. Nor are you endearing. And all your attempts at being warm, nice and showing excitement are as fake and contrived as a twelve-pound note. You are not likable. You are not nice. And you DID hurt Danyl with those comments, we could see it quite clearly. But Danyl is the bigger person, and said otherwise. Kudos to him. Thumbs down to Dannii. She’s vile.
