Soul singer Seal has questioned shows such as The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, saying that the winners aren’t after musical success but rather a quick path to fame and fortune. Seal did however admit that Britain’s Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle was “an exception”.
Talking to the Daily Star about shows like The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, Seal said: “It’s good entertainment but I question sometimes whether it’s the best thing for our industry.
“When I started of course I wanted to be successful but I didn’t want to be famous.
“I don’t know if winners of shows like The X Factor really want to be successful. What I see is an incredible drive to be famous.”
But Seal admitted: “Susan Boyle is an exception. I seriously believe that Susan couldn’t give a stuff about being famous. She sings because it’s in her – she’s a true artist. She sings because it’s her form of expression and if she doesn’t she will become ill. It’s her way of release.”
