X Factor twins Jedward have signed a new record deal with music giant Universal Music just a day after being dropped by rival label Sony. The Irish duo have been signed to produce three albums with manager Louis Walsh saying that the boys now have “a great career ahead of them.”
X Factor twin’s John and Edward have been dropped by their record label Sony after only one single, it has been reported. Jedward’s debut song, a cover of Under Pressure, peaked at number 2 but spent less than 5 weeks in the Top 40 before plummeting down the chart, selling less than 100,000 copies in its run.
X Factor judge Louis Walsh has claimed that 2008 runners up JLS were the ‘real winners’ of their series in an interview with the BBC. The Irish judge, who mentored the group at the time, also revealed he is hoping for more groups in this year’s auditions, adding “It could be the year for a group to win it.”
R&B superstar Rihanna has said she’ll be recording with JLS by the end of the year, as The X Factor 2008 runners up prepare to launch themselves in the US. Rihanna tipped JLS to do well in the states, saying Jay-Z would ‘make stars out of them’ when they release their debut album later this year.
X Factor winner Joe McElderry has signed a modelling deal with Next Models which could see him front campaigns for top British designers. Joe said the modelling work would be ‘exciting’ to continue alongside his music, which he’ll start work on following the end of The X Factor live tour.
Three piece girl band Miss Fitz are to compete in a BBC reality show to represent the UK in this year’s Eurovision song contest. The girl group wowed the judges in this year’s auditions with their version of Britney Spears’ Toxic and were hotly tipped to be one of the best groups the show has had.
X Factor 2009 finalist Lucie Jones is to record on a charity record to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The 18-year-old will join Kym Marsh, Danielle Lloyd, Sonique and actress Caroline Quentin among others on the track, a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s track Girls Just Wanna Have Fun which will be released April 26.
X Factor winner Joe McElderry has described the current X Factor live arena tour as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime chance’ as he sings to crowds of over 12,000 people. However Joe has admitted he hasn’t had the best of starts to the tour, with mishaps and problems plaguing the first few dates in Liverpool and Birmingham last week.
British folk singer Richard Thompson has criticised The X Factor, claiming its stars like Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke can’t sing and ‘lack musical intelligence’. Speaking to BBC’s Hardtalk programme, Thompson said X Factor contestants couldn’t actually sing songs, despite having good voices.
Olly Murs is set to sign a six-figure record deal with Epic, it has been reported. The runner up is in talks with the label who turned last year’s runners up JLS into a chart success. The news comes after it was revealed last week that Simon Cowell’s Syco label would not be signing anyone other than Joe.
