Music artists are forced to be part of and embrace shows like The X Factor, singer Paloma Faith has claimed. Describing the music industry as ‘completely run by television’, Faith revealed that artists simply cannot turn down the chance to promote their work in front of 14 million viewers.
The X Factor auditions are to return to Ireland for the first time in four years, according to tabloid reports. Irish auditions were scrapped in 2006 followed by the blocking of Irish residents from voting in 2008 after a number of TV voting scandals. However the success of John and Edward means that producers want the show to return and hold open auditions for this year’s series.

British folk singer Richard Thompson has criticised The X Factor, claiming its stars like Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke can’t sing and ‘lack musical intelligence’. Speaking to BBC’s Hardtalk programme, Thompson said X Factor contestants couldn’t actually sing songs, despite having good voices.
