Simon Cowell has said he is devastated at having to axe X Factor contestant Shirlena Johnson over worries about her psychological problems. Speaking to The Sun, Cowell said he was upset about the decision but ultimately his team were responsible for the welfare of contestants and Shirlena could not continue.
Sharon Osbourne will reportedly return to the show she was once a judge on in order to take in Judges’ Houses with Louis Walsh. According to The Sun Sharon, who quit the show two years ago back in 2008, will join Louis as the pair whittle down the eight acts in his category to three.
Louis Walsh has said how he “nearly quit The X Factor” after he found out what category he would be mentoring this year. The Irish judge, who has mentored the Groups for four out of the six series he’s taken part in, said that his fellow judges Cheryl and Dannii had it easy, scoring the best categories.
Shirlena Johnson is reportedly facing the axe from The X Factor after it was revealed she hid psychological problems from the show’s producers. According to The Sun, the programme’s bosses were unfair of how “fragile” Shirlena, who auditioned in Saturday’s series’ opener, was, with comparisons being made to Britain’s Got Talent’s Susan Boyle.
Bosses of The X Factor have denied that Auto-Tune has been used during the live shows amid growing complaints about its use in last week’s auditions. A report in today’s Mirror claims that Auto-Tune has been used to make contestants both better and worse during the live shows of previous series.
The apparent use of Auto-Tune and other processing on the vocals of this year’s auditionees has caused complaints, overshadowing the show’s return. Fans of the programme have pointed out how numerous auditions, including those by Shirelna Johnson and Gamu Nhengu, had ‘clearly been modified’ to improve them.
The opening episode of The X Factor last night saw the biggest ratings for the launch show ever with more than 11 million people tuning in between 7:30PM and 9PM. The series 7 premiere, which saw auditionees from Glasgow and London, was watched by 11.09 million on ITV1 and ITV1 HD.
X Factor 2010 hopeful Katie Waissel is reportedly facing the axe from the show after it has been revealed that she had already signed a record deal before her audition. According to The Mirror, the 24-year-old – who auditioned at London during last night’s first show – was previously signed to a US label.
