X Factor judge Louis Walsh has described the talent show as “Big Brother meets Jerry Springer” in an article in The Sun newspaper. Talking about how some contestants may handle fame, Walsh revealed he didn’t think some hopefuls should be on the show.
X Factor hopefuls have been complaining about the conditions they “suffered” in boot camp over the past week with some comparing it to a “concentration camp”. 200 singers who made it through the live regional auditions came to London to compete for 24 places at the judges’ houses.
Talented Mali Michael McCalla auditioned last year for The X Factor but was turned away because of his age and fears he wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure. According to The Sun he has now snubbed a chance to return and audition again at the age of 16.
An ex-rival of Cheryl Cole from the Popstars: The rivals, the show which made her famous as part of girl band Girls Aloud, auditioned at one of the live London auditions. Daniel Pearce was part of rival boy band, One True Voice (OTV) which lost the competition were dropped by their record and split after less than a year.
It was reported there was chaos at the second day of live auditions in London after a rejected contestant threatened to commit suicide when being interviewed after her performance. Not only was the auditionee, in her 50s, rejected by the four judges but also the 2,000 strong crowd present at the new audition format.
Judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole joined presenter Dermot O’Leary and Xtra Factor presenter Holly Willoughy for the first two ‘live’ audition shows yesterday at the ExCel centre.
X Factor hopeful’s who have already auditioned in front of the judges may be required to audition again in front of the live audience as a result of new format changes.
Speaking to GMTV Simon Cowell has revealed this year’s auditions will be held in front of a live audience, the same way as Britain’s Got Talent auditions are currently held.
