American musician Usher has accused of television reality shows such as American Idol and The X Factor as killing music. Calling television “a lie”, Usher admitted that shows do work by selling records, but damage the business in process. These comments come despite the fact Usher appeared on American Idol only last month as a mentor.
X Factor 2009 finalist Lucie Jones has revealed how she felt that Simon Cowell was victimising her on the show, saying she wanted the punch the judge following her exit. Lucie Jones left the show after falling into the bottom two against Jedward, however both Simon and Louis opted to save Jedward resulting in deadlock which left Lucie heading home.
Radio 1′s Edith Bowman has likened The X Factor to a conveyor belt, saying there is a lack of time, effort and energy put into the reality shows winners. In the recent interview, Bowman also criticised the contestants, saying they were hoping for fame and fortune, rather than because they wanted to become talented musicians.
British folk singer Richard Thompson has criticised The X Factor, claiming its stars like Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke can’t sing and ‘lack musical intelligence’. Speaking to BBC’s Hardtalk programme, Thompson said X Factor contestants couldn’t actually sing songs, despite having good voices.
Who need’s shiny BAFTAs or National Television Awards when you can claim the title of “Most Complained About Show Of The Year”? The X Factor takes the prize for 2009 with over 5,900 complaints to date with 4,000 complaints alone regarding Dannii’s comments to Danyl Johnson during the first live show.
Rachel Hylton (remember her?) from X Factor 2008 has hit out at her then mentor Dannii Minogue for not supporting her and favouring Ruth Lorenzo. The 28-year-old has revealed that Dannii “didn’t know what to do” with her and that she is “gutted” for herself.
Pop Idol and Popstars judge Pete Waterman has hit out (again) at The X Factor, saying that “The cheating has taken over” and that it is no longer the show he was a judge on.
X Factor 2007 runner up Rhydian Roberts is not impressed with the talent on this year’s show, saying that the standards aren’t very good and that the show is not about singers anymore.
X Factor 2006 winner Leona Lewis has revealed she doesn’t think the show is about singing anymore, just entertainment. Speaking to News Of The World, Lewis complained talented vocalists had left the competition over poorer singers.
Danyl’s mum, Maria Burgess, has revealed she believes Simon Cowell is sidelining her son and focusing on bookies favourite Olly Murs instead. Speaking to The Mirror, Maria said that she didn’t think Simon was giving Danyl a fair chance.
