X Factor 2007 winner Leona Lewis has topped a list of the richest UK musicians under the age of 30. Leona shares the title with fellow reality TV related acts Charlotte Church and Katherine Jenkins with an estimated worth of £11 million each. X Factor judges Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell have also made a lot of money from the show, with Cole’s wealth increasing by 150% in the last year alone.
British folk singer Richard Thompson has criticised The X Factor, claiming its stars like Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke can’t sing and ‘lack musical intelligence’. Speaking to BBC’s Hardtalk programme, Thompson said X Factor contestants couldn’t actually sing songs, despite having good voices.
