How it works
12 contestants make it through to the live finals, 3 from each group: the girls, boys, groups and over-25s. Every week each finalist will sing up to three songs with the public voting for their favourite contestant to keep them safe.
In the first 7 weeks the two contestants with the lowest percentage of the votes will sing again and each judge will vote for the finalist they believe should be eliminated with the finalist with the most votes leaving the show. In event the judges cannot come to a decision the contestant with the lowest percentage of the two finalists will leave, this is known as “deadlock”
From week 8 there is no bottom two, with the finalist receiving the least amount of votes leaving the show.
The final week is split into two shows, with third place being decided in the first show before second and first place being revealed later in the second show.
